Turning the Wheel: The Struggle for Peace

in El Salvador Today

PART 1

PART 2

Recorded in Ciudad Romero and the capital of San Salvador in the summer of 2001, under the auspices of American Jewish World Service, this 2-part radio documentary reports from the first UNESCO-recognized Local Peace Zone in the world. Former rebels and government soldiers share the land in the Lower Lempa Valley where they built new communities after the signing of the Peace Accords. It touches on the gang phenomenon in Central America in its infancy, earthquake-proof construction, the rescue of indigenous language and culture, and the challenges facing Salvadorans at that critical moment in their history. A copy of this report can be found in AGNES, the National General Archive of El Salvador.
